About Me

About Me

My husband and I write an Expat Lifestyle and Travel Blog and live in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico https://www.ourprimeoflife.com And I am writing my two-book memoirs. Book #1 Unraveling - a journey into chaos - a memoir in essays. Book #2 Becoming Content with a Scattered Mind - my journey through chaos to contentment with Bipolar 1 and ADHD. Life has given me a lot of lessons to learn from. I eventually did just that, by taking the time to learn about myself and where I belong. A move to Mexico and writing have been the best medicine. Here I am happy. Here I am me. And here, I am writing about my journey.

I just finished a workshop called Publish the Pers I just finished a workshop called Publish the Personal where we focused on writing essays to submit to publications etc. And, I received my first rejection. I could have gotten unhappy or depressed but I didn’t!! I got happy. Someone read it. The next time will be easier. The only way I can see myself as a failure is if I don’t try at all. Whew, today I am calling it. I have put about as m Whew, today I am calling it. I have put about as much in my rough draft as I can for now. It is roughly 70,000 words. And still needs so much work. The essays need to be substantially more developed, especially the ones about travel. I need to make sure every essay answers these questions at the beginning of the book
"I’d fallen over the cliff, or rather, took a deep dive with no parachute. Homeless, driving away from my townhouse I turned left, I essentially killed the life I knew. My ragged thought was, what the hell was wrong with me? And how the hell did I get here?"
and that the theme of this first memoir is what led to my breakdown and becoming homeless is consistent.
I need to hone my craft and make my essays more vivid. Some are, some need more work. That will come with practice and workshops and maybe some coaching.
But I need a break.
I am taking a month off of the memoir. But not off of writing. I am taking a workshop on the personal essay with Nadine Kenney Johnstone and will try to get some shorter pieces out into the world.
I'll read some other memoirs.
Then, refreshed I will tackle my memoir again in April.
